HONOLULU, July 5, 2023 - Hawaiian Electric crews will be upgrading overhead power lines in Laie, closing a section of the makai lane of Kamehameha Highway on Tuesday, July 11, and Thursday, July 13. The work will impact a different area on each day along a stretch of Kamehameha Hwy. from Kulanui Lane to just north of the Mālaekahana State Recreation Area.

Due to the makai lane closure from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. each day, traffic will be contraflowed in the mauka lane of Kamehameha Hwy. and parking restricted in the following areas:

  • Tuesday, July 11 - Between Wahinepee Street near Hukilau Beach Park and just north of the Malaekahana State Recreation Area
  • Thursday, July 13 - Between Kulanui Lane and Naniloa Loop

Special duty police and flagmen will provide traffic control. Traffic cones and safety signs will mark the work zone. Motorists should anticipate delays and plan accordingly.

The work is part of a system reliability project on Oahu's North Shore that will continue through the end of July.
