A Day in the Life of a Gilbert Water Engineer

Gilbert, Ariz. - In football terms, Gilbert's water department is like the town's offensive line.

"If we're doing a good job, you don't know we're here," said Jeanne Jensen, Gilbert's Capital Projects Supervisor.

"You don't think about when you go to fill up your water bottle at the tap, 'Am I going to have water today?' You just know it's going to be there, and our goal is to make sure that you know it's always going to be there and it's always going to be clean and safe and reliable."

Jeanne oversees engineering and construction management for Gilbert's water, wastewater, stormwater, and reclaimed water utilities.

In 2022, she was named Engineer of the Year by the Arizona Water Association and was Arizona's recipient of the coveted George Warren Fuller Award, a national recognition from the American Water Works Association.

Jeanne is currently in charge of the largest capital improvement project that Gilbert has ever embarked on - the reconstruction of the North Water Treatment Plant.

It's a massive undertaking that will take several years to complete. When finished, the treatment plant will supply water to 70% of Gilbert residents.

As we face a future with less water from the Colorado River, planning and investment in infrastructure that helps Gilbert maintain a sustainable water supply is more important than ever.
