The third edition of the Smart Transportation Shanghai Forum, held during the ongoing China International Import Expo (CIIE), unveiled significant advancements in Shanghai's transportation sector.

The forum showcased Shanghai's commitment to smart technology, digital transformation, and green, sustainable development.

One of the key announcements was the launch of the "One Code Pass" initiative in the Yangtze River Delta region.

Starting next year, 11 cities in Shanghai, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, and Anhui provinces will initiate mutual connectivity, allowing seamless travel across city borders.

The program commenced on November 1, with several cities, including Shanghai, Suzhou, and Jiaxing, piloting the interconnected travel system.

By 2024, 11 cities, including Hangzhou, Taizhou, Shaoxing, Ningbo in Zhejiang, and Nanjing, Wuxi, Xuzhou, Nantong, Huai'an, Lianyungang in Jiangsu, and Hefei in Anhui, will be part of this interconnected network.

The scope of interconnectivity is set to expand further by 2025.

Shanghai's Municipal Transportation Commission revealed that the city will leverage the "Follow Shanghai" platform, upgrading it to Regional MaaS 4.0. This effort aims to extend travel services to other regions, promoting deep collaboration with neighboring provinces and cities.

The objective is to establish the Yangtze River Delta Integrated Travel Alliance, fostering an integrated travel service platform and advancing the establishment of an integrated travel ecosystem across the region.

Moreover, the city showcased remarkable progress in the development of intelligent transportation systems, especially in the realm of autonomous driving.

Shanghai has created extensive testing environments for autonomous vehicles, totaling 926 routes and 1800 kilometers of roads, making it a leader in the nation.

The city plans to expand these test areas in Pudong, including regions like Jinqiao and Pudong Airport, to facilitate broader and more diverse testing scenarios, further enhancing interconnectivity between Pudong and Lingang areas.

Addressing concerns about electric vehicle charging facilities, the forum disclosed that Shanghai has made substantial strides in this area.

Currently, the city has installed approximately 770,000 charging poles, with 180,000 of them being public (including specialized) charging points. This significant deployment has alleviated the challenges associated with charging electric vehicles in the city.

Looking forward, Shanghai intends to intensify efforts in electric vehicle charging infrastructure. Over the next three years, the city plans to construct more than 30,000 additional public charging poles, emphasizing its commitment to sustainable transportation solutions and promoting the adoption of electric vehicles among its residents.

These advancements underscore Shanghai's dedication to advancing smart transportation initiatives and sustainable urban mobility, reinforcing its position as a pioneering city in the global transportation landscape.
