The European Union continues to call for improved intellectual property protection in China

World Intellectual Property Day is celebrated every 26 April to increase intellectual property (IP) awareness. In China, the European Union continues to advocate for effective IP protection for European companies and non-discriminatory enforcement.

This month, several meetings took place between the European Commission and the China National Intellectual Property Administration.

In addition, EU Delegation representatives and the EU funded project IP Key China continue to organize and take part in IP events in China.

On 23 April 2024, atthe 2024 High-level Forum on China IP Protection in Beijing, Trade Counsellor Hélène JURAMY emphasised the importance of IP and the question faced by foreign companies: "These days China is calling on foreign companies to invest and innovate in China, but what if they do not feel safe their IP is protected? […] Our businesses still face great challenges when operating in non-EU countries, including inadequate IP rules and enforcement, forced technology transfer and other unfair practices such as forced joint sharing of IP."
