If you watched the final football game this weekend, you may not be aware that Fort Worth was a part of the action. From Fort Worth to New Orleans, All-American Tire Recyclers sent crumb rubber - residual pieces of rubber from recycled tire processing - to be used as part of the asphalt padding in the end zones in Caesars Superdome in Louisiana.
It's all about teamwork. All-American Tire Recyclers (AATR) serves as a 100% green tire recycling facility, contracted with the City of Fort Worth, to receive scrap tires that City staff collects from illegal dump site abatements, litter cleanup events, resident disposal at City Drop-Off Stations, and special collection events.
Originally based in Fort Worth, AATR has grown and increased its clientele, recycling over 6 million tires a year, and has diverted more than 133 million pounds of rubber from landfills nationwide. The company's rubber products support sustainable reuse, provide green energy solutions, and align with the City's goal of a cleaner, greener city.
In November 2024, the City of Fort Worth hosted its first scrap tire collection event, resulting in the collection of 383 scrap tires brought by residents. Residents were encouraged to bring used tires and rims from cars, trucks and other passenger vehicles, bicycles and riding lawn mowers. Commercial vehicles and 18-wheelers are not accepted.
The City will be hosting three additional Scrap Tire Collection events over the next few months:
These collection events are offered in cooperation with the North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) through funding from the Texas Commission of Environmental Quality (TCEQ).
Tires from these upcoming collection events may not appear in a nationally-televised game, but may be transformed into useful materials for products like playground surfaces, parking lots, asphalt and landscaping materials throughout the DFW metroplex. Being part of a larger solution is, undoubtedly, an exciting win for the local community.
