Earn a USCG Captain's License through Five Town CSD Adult Ed

Posted June 10, 2021

Are you or someone you know interested in obtaining a USCG Captain's License? Five Town CSD Adult Ed is offering two information sessions on July 20 and again on August 10, from 6:00-8:00 PM; the full course will begin in the fall of 2021. The information sessions will be held live via Zoom, participants must have reliable internet and a device with audio and camera capabilities.

The information session will help answer questions such as the differences between an Operator Uninspected Passenger Vessel (OUPV) license and a Master 100GT license, and what experience the Coast Guard requires for each. Also discussed will be the different methods of completing the course requirements.

This information session is free, but please register in advance, so the instructor knows how many individuals will be attending. Click here to register for the July 20 session, here for the August 10 session.

The Captain School Key West, through local instructor John Coffin, is offering both the information nights and the full course. The fee of $900 for the OUPV course includes texts, charts, navigation tools, and the USCG-approved exam.

Adult ed is also offering several hiking trips this summer, guided by Maine Guide and naturalist Gary Roberts of Deerfoot Farm in Appleton. In June we have Hiking Bates Morse Mountain on the 19th; July's trip is Hiking at Maine Audubon's Borestone Mountain Sanctuary on the 17th; and August's hike is Hiking Beech Hill in Rockport on August 21.

Many more classes continue through June, July and August, including online computer instruction, navigation, yoga, and history; and in-person foraging, dance, Plein air, sewing, quilting and Spanish. Visit us at fivetowns.coursestorm.com for information on all of our upcoming classes.
