Lewisham revitalised with £19 million Levelling Up funding (Levelling Up Fund 2)

Levelling Up funding will support three projects that will provide new jobs, boost the local economy and create a better town centre for local people.

Revitalising Lewisham Market

The historic market will be transformed to support local traders and encourage new visitors.

Improvements to the market include:

  • changing the layout of the market to provide more pitch space for traders, make it more attractive for customers and with better waste facilities.
  • new environmentally friendly canopies to extend the market outside current trading hours
  • new paving, lighting and benches around the market to make it a more inviting and inclusive place to meet

Levelling Up funding will also support the refurbishment of the iconic Grade II listed Clock Tower.

A new culture and business hub at Lewisham Library

Lewisham Library will be renovated into a new Culture and Business Hub that includes:

  • more space for books and other library services
  • Lewisham Lounge: a new community space for exhibitions, attractions and socialising
  • workspace for local businesses and students
  • a new rooftop bar and ground floor café

A better-connected high street

Lewisham High Street will become better connected, attractive and safer with:

  • upgrades to current road crossings and the creation of new road crossings improving the area for pedestrians
  • new trees and green space for people to enjoy
  • improved entry routes for cyclists
  • a new mobility hub for cyclists and electric vehicles
  • better lighting and CCTV
