An Garda Síochána Participated in Operation Global Chain an EMPACT Operational Plan in Europol, targeting Human Trafficking.

Between 8th May 2023 and 12th May 2023, An Garda Síochána, along with other law enforcement partners, participated in Operation Global Chain, targeting human trafficking for the purpose of sexual exploitation, forced criminality and forced begging in order to detect and disrupt organised crime groups and (high value) targets. The operation was coordinated at Interpol and lead by Frontex the European Border Agency.

A number of premises were inspected as part of a Multi-Agency approach in counties Monaghan, Louth and Dublin. The agencies involved consisted of Gardaí attached to the Garda National Protective Services Bureau, Human Trafficking Investigation and Co-Ordination Unit (HTICU), The Garda National Immigration Bureau (GNIB), The Workplace Relations Commission and the Revenue Commissioners.

In addition, HTICU members supported by GNIB members monitored flights and provided a visible presence at Dublin and Cork Airport and Dublin Port.

A number of potential victims of human trafficking were spoken to at the locations. A number of females were identified as working in the sex industry and all were provided with information on the Organised Prostitution Investigation Unit and the Human Trafficking Investigation and Coordination Unit.

An Garda Síochána will continue to work closely with Europol and other law enforcement partners in the identification of new victims so they can be also removed from harm.
