Wicker Statement on President Tsai Ing-Wen’s Transit to the United States

WASHINGTON- U.S. Senator Roger Wicker, R-Miss., ranking member on the Senate Armed Services Committee, today released the following statement in response to Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-Wen's transit through the United States enroute to Central America:

"For the past 7 years, President Tsai has been a great partner for the United States.? She has steadfastly advanced Taiwan's security, economy, and democracy amid a growing number of challenges in the region," Wicker said.? "I am confident the United States will remain a close friend and ally of Taiwan and its people on a bipartisan basis.? As the Ranking Member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, I will continue to look for ways to strengthen our partnership and relationship with Taiwan, including the full implementation of the Taiwan Enhanced Resilience Act, which Congress passed as part of FY2023 National Defense Authorization Act."

While in the United States, President Tsai intends to meet with senior Republican lawmakers, such as Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., and China Select Committee Chairman Mike Gallagher, R-Wis.
