Planning is key to travelling this holiday season

The 2023 holiday season is anticipated to be the busiest travel season since 2019 at the Ottawa Airport. Our seasonal schedule is in full swing, and most flights are expected to be full. Thursday, December 21 and Friday, December 22 will be the busiest travel days of 2023.

The Airport Authority has sprinkled holiday spirit throughout YOW and is gifting you tips to lessen the stress that travelling this time of year can bring.

We will once again welcome the Dickens Carolers and Maple Leaf Horn Quartet to entertain passengers, and we have invited Sing House Studios students, Tom McMahon, and Erica Brighthill to participate in our musical program this year. The schedule is available on our website.

We've prepared a list of travel tips to help make your trip more enjoyable.

BEFORE YOUR TRIP

• Save time and check in for your flight online from home
• Ensure travellers in your group have proper identification
• If you're travelling with children, bring books or toys to keep them occupied while you wait for your flight
• Pack smart
  • The Canadian Air Transport Security Authority website has information about what you can and can't take in your carry-on luggage
  • Pack medications and valuables in your carry-on
  • If you plan to take gifts in your carry-on, don't wrap them; they may need to be inspected during the security screening

• If there is inclement weather, check your flight status with your airline before making your way to the airport and give yourself extra time to get here
• Reserve parking online to guarantee your spot
• Download your airline's app to access handy features, including Air Canada's new baggage and mobility aide tracker

AT THE AIRPORT

• If you're travelling to a sunshine destination, you can store your winter gear at the airport for a small fee. PARS 2000, located in the Arrivals area on Level 1, is open 24/7
• Need assistance?
  • YOW is now a member of the Sunflower program. A passenger with a hidden disability who wears a Sunflower lanyard discreetly alerts staff that they may need extra help or time during the travel process. Find out more at www.yow.ca/en/accessibility
  • The SAVM Passenger Concierge is a curb-to-cabin service available for a fee
• Stay connected with YOW's free WiFi and device charging receptacles throughout the terminal
• There are in-terminal animal relief stations available in both the Canada/International and U.S. gate areas
• There are many new restaurants, including local favourites Bridgehead, La Bottega and Big Rig in the Canada/International gate area
• Picking up a passenger? Wait for them in our Cell Phone Lot. When arriving at the airport, turn right on Air Cargo Private
