The Village Theater at Cherry Hill Presents A Collaborative Exhibit By The Palette and Brush Club

The Village Theater at Cherry Hill is pleased to present a collaborative exhibit entitled "Points of View", representing the artwork of several members of the Palette and Brush Club, now through May 28, 2024. The public is invited to attend the artists' opening art reception, which will be held on Saturday, May 18, from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m.

The Palette and Brush Club is a supportive, longstanding Detroit-area art club, dating back to the Depression era of 1934. Their first group met at Redford High School for evening classes, followed by two public shows in 1935, with the creation of bylaws and a constitution completed in 1936, and incorporation followed in 1949.

Ninety years after their first meeting, the Palette and Brush Club remains a close-knit community with less than 50 members offering a monthly critique group and virtual open studio sessions, in addition to a monthly meeting. These meetings feature programs and demonstrations by professional artists to further the education and artistic development of their members. The club includes artists of all levels, working in all mediums, and all subject matter. Some members are quite active in their practice while some are considered Sunday artists, but all strive to be supportive of each other regardless of where they are in their art experience.

The members of the Palette and Brush Club represented in this exhibit include: Jayne Brophy, Gail Churchill, Rusty Frentner, Amy Gamble, Janice Gongloff, Shirley Gower, Jim Karell, Linda Pelowski, Meike Rapp-Ullmann, Lisa Richter, Melissa Ringey, James Rodriguez, Andrea Rose, Ev Schwartz, Nancy Slutsky, Kathleen Wilson, and Patricia Young.

As a group, the Palette and Brush Club's mission is to improve, evolve, and pay it forward by enhancing the lives and artistic careers of their members, as well as the next generation of local artists. They accomplish this through two major exhibitions each year to showcase members' artwork providing visibility to critics, gallery owners, and interested audiences, as well as sales and commission work. In addition, the club donates funds to underwrite scholarships for promising art students at area colleges.
