For safe Independence Day, keep hands off fireworks

As we approach Independence Day, the Bellevue Fire Department wants to remind residents that the best way to stay safe during the holiday is to leave the fireworks to the professionals. Community members are encouraged to celebrate by attending regional fireworks shows, such as the Bellevue Family 4th.

Each year in Washington, approximately 1,000 fireworks-related emergencies are reported to the state Fire Marshal. In 2020 alone, over 360 fires were reportedly caused by fireworks, and 237 people were significantly injured. In addition to being dangerous, fireworks are illegal in Bellevue. Violators face a $1,000 fine.

In an effort to discourage the use of private fireworks, the police and fire departments will conduct fireworks emphasis patrols throughout the city on Monday, July 4. Help keep emergency lines open that day; report illegal fireworks in the MyBellevue app or web portal instead of calling 911.
