5G Geotechnological Competition in the Digital Age

Fifth-generation mobile network technology (5G) will drive geopolitics, economic prosperity, and national security in the 2020s. 5G promises to empower commercial industries and transform defense, intelligence, and civilian government agencies. For countries that can harness-and secure-constellations of 5G technology, the opportunities for power, prosperity, and influence are vast: new diplomatic levers, foreign aid and trade advantages, and security and military prowess.

This publication is a national blueprint for navigating 5G challenges and opportunities. Using Booz Allen's distinctive 5G Power Framework, we aim to help national policymakers accelerate the build and application of secure 5G. We applied the 5G Power Framework to 10 diverse countries to see where the race to comprehensive 5G stands, and to reveal insights and lessons that will fuel U.S. competitiveness.
