Wagner’s Elie Wiesel Genocide and Atrocities Prevention Act Signed Into Law

Washington, D.C. - Congresswoman Ann Wagner (R-MO), Vice Chair of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, released the following statement after the President signed into law her bipartisan Elie Wiesel Genocide and Atrocities Prevention Extension Act, legislation to improve U.S. efforts to prevent mass atrocity crimes. Named after the courageous Auschwitz survivor, the legislation honors the legacy of Nobel Laureate Elie Wiesel and his life work to fight evil around the world. This legislation is supported by Elisha Wiesel, son of Elie Wiesel.

Congresswoman Wagner: "It is our responsibility to speak up and act when we see injustice. The Elie Wiesel Genocide and Atrocities Prevention Extension Act will strengthen our ongoing efforts to respond to atrocities globally and work to prevent such crises from developing at all. The world has seen unimaginable tragedies, and, especially in the wake of the brutal terror attack on October 7th in Israel, we know there is still much to be done to protect innocent civilians from depraved people who wish to wipe them from the Earth simply for who they are. This legislation will ensure our government can better assist vulnerable populations globally and act quickly when time matters most."
