The Engagement Plot, filmed in Colorado Springs, to premiere on UPTV August 21

A 2022 production filmed primarily in Colorado Springs will premiere on UPTV August 21. The Engagement Plot, executive produced by Jim Janicek from Janicek Media, Brian Bird, Access Media Group, True Brand, and Offspring Productions, received a film incentive from the Colorado Office of Film, Television and Media (COFTM) to offset production expenses and support the state's film industry.

Set in rural Colorado, The Engagement Plot follows the story of Hanna and Will, two participants in a popular reality dating show. After Will breaks Hanna's heart on national television, she returns to her small-town Colorado life as a teacher. That quiet life is interrupted when Will shows up unexpectedly with an outrageous proposal.

This is the first of two 2022 productions filmed in Colorado Springs by executive producers Bird and Janicek. The Happy Camper wrapped filming in March of 2022 and is set to air this fall.

Bird is a Colorado writer and producer best known for his work on When Calls the Heart. Janicek is a producer, filmmaker, and the CEO and founder of Janicek Media. He is best known for his creation of ABC's hit comedy franchise ABC TGIF, and has produced many films in Colorado to support a sustainable film industry in the state.

"Colorado Springs and the magical background of the Garden of the Gods park along with the Glen Eyrie Castle made for the perfect setting for our story. The Engagement Plot is about a fairytale romance reality show that turns into a heartwarming story for the whole family," said Janicek. "Trevor Donovan and Rachel Boston did a great job as our leads. We would have been hard pressed to find a better location. The crews were mostly local and completely up for the challenge of filming an entire movie in just 15 days!"

Filming for The Engagement Plot wrapped in November 2021, and post-production wrapped in March of this year. The production spent $739,634 locally, employed 48 local cast and crew members, and received a Colorado Film Incentive of $147,000 from COFTM and the Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade. The incentive is a performance-based rebate of qualified expenses, designed to support the creation of jobs for Coloradans in the film industry. On average, these incentives provide a 22-to-1 return on investment for the economy.

"The benefits of filming in Colorado go beyond a single production. Cast and crew further their professional experience, and the films also promote Colorado as a great film location and tourism destination. We want to demonstrate that Colorado has a thriving film industry, and productions like The Engagement Plot are part of that success," said Donald Zuckerman, COFTM's Film Commissioner.

The Engagement Plot will premiere on UPTV on August 21, 2022 at 5 PM Mountain Time. The Happy Camper will be available to watch this fall.
