Public Notice - Wastewater Spill

The City of Douglas Wastewater Treatment Plant has reported a wastewater spill into an unnamed tributary of the Seventeen Mile River. The spill occurred from 7:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 11, 2024, until 7:30 a.m. on Sunday, April 14, 2024. The spill was caused by heavy rains that resulted in high flows.

The spill was reported at the Wastewater Treatment Plant situated at 622 Iron Road, Douglas, GA 31533. The estimated quantity of spillage is 31.4 million gallons. As a safety measure, it is advised that people avoid coming in contact with the affected stream water until after April 19, 2024. Employees will conduct water sampling upstream and downstream of the spill site to ensure that water quality has not been negatively impacted. The water samples will be tested for dissolved oxygen concentration, pH, temperature, and fecal coliform.
