New Permanent Representative of Angola Presents Credentials

The new Permanent Representative of Angola to the United Nations, Francisco José da Cruz, presented his credentials to UN Secretary-General António Guterres today.

Prior to his appointment, Mr. da Cruz served as his country's Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Ethiopia and Djibouti from 2019 to 2023. During that time, he also was the Permanent Representative of Angola to the African Union and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA).

Between 2011 to 2019, he served within Angola's Ministry of External Relations, including as Director of the Europe Directorate from 2016 to 2019, Director of the America Directorate from 2014 to 2016 and Director of the Studies and Analysis Office from 2012 to 2014.

He has also held several roles in the private sector, including with BP Angola from 2002 to 2007. He first served within the Permanent Mission of Angola to the United Nations as an Assistant to the Ambassador from 1990 to 1992.

Mr. da Cruz holds a Master of Business Administration and a Bachelor of Business Administration, both from Strayer University in the United States.

Born in Kalandula in 1955, he is fluent in Portuguese, English, French and Spanish.
