Five people safely evacuated following house fire - Fairfield East

Published: 09 Oct 2024 02:48pm

Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) crews have extinguished a house fire early this morning at Fairfield East in Sydney's west, leaving the residence severely damaged.

The blaze broke out at 3.40am in the laundry where it penetrated into the roof cavity and quickly spread through the rest of the roof, causing it to collapse.

More than 22 firefighters and six fire trucks, including a ladder platform, responded to a Triple Zero (000) call to flames and smoke issuing from the property.

Upon arrival, FRNSW crews observed fire through the roof of the single level building, that extended from the rear to the front of the property.

Firefighters immediately began attacking the flames, battling the blaze externally.

The flames later caused the ceiling to collapse.

Crews managed to contain and extinguish the fire in approximately one hour.

Five people self-evacuated from the premises after being alerted to the fire by neighbours and there were no reported injuries.

FRNSW is unable to determine whether a working smoke alarm was in the property however it is a timely reminder for the community that a residential fire can take hold in as little as three minutes, and it is vital to have a working smoke alarm to give occupants early warning and evacuate safely.
