ICYMI: Tuberville Joins Lou Holtz: There’s an attack on Title IX

WASHINGTON - U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) joined Coach Lou Holtz on his podcast, "The Lou Holtz Show," to discuss the impact of Title IX and the Biden administration's war on women.

Excerpts from Senator Tuberville's remarks can be found below, and his full remarks can be found on YouTube.

HOLTZ: "To give women the opportunity to compete in sports. I cannot believe that one of the largest political battles today is centered around protecting women's sports. You've been a leading voice in this in the Senate. Tell me about this fight." […]

TUBERVILLE: "I coached junior girls' basketball. Now, that was a thrill. But one of the best things that I've seen in my career, that's ever happened up here in Washington D.C. was the passage of Title IX, which gave young girls and women the opportunity to compete on the same level as men in terms of facilities and scholarships and funding and coaching. […] As you said, we had to cut back our football team numbers, just the simple fact that we had to have the same numbers for women's sports. But that was fine; we needed to do something. And the rise of women's sports, Coach Holtz, has been just phenomenal in the last fifty years. If you just look at the volleyball, the gymnastics, the softball now. It's becoming just unbelievable. But now there's an attack. There's an attack on Title IX. Because they want to allow transgender boys and men to compete against women. It's not right. I can't believe we're even talking about this. […] But I can't get the bill on the floor with Senator Schumer. We're going to continue to fight it. […] They've lost their mind. Somebody's going to get hurt and so you're going to see the downfall of girls' athletics simply for the fact parents aren't going to allow their young kids to get involved at a young age. And as you know, if you're going to get into sports, you've got to grow up in it to really understand it and enjoy it."

HOLTZ: "I know this, Tommy, the value of being associated with a team. I learned more on a football team than I ever learned in a college classroom. You learn unselfishness. You learn how to be a part of a team. You learn to encourage. You learn to be patient. And we're taking that away from women - and that's unfair. Even last night, I'm watching the Iowa women's basketball team - how good they were. And then South Carolina's basketball team, which is absolutely outstanding. And I watch those gymnastics women, particularly, it's incredible how talented they are. It's like watching the Olympics. So I thank you for your fight, and I certainly hope you will continue."

Senator Tommy Tuberville represents Alabama in the United States Senate and is a member of the Senate Armed Services, Agriculture, Veterans' Affairs, and HELP Committees.
