WHAT: |
The Oakland County Board of Commissioners will host more than 80 high school students from across the county this week for its annual Youth in Government Day event. High schoolers will learn about county government, participate in sustainability problem solving sessions facilitated by the MSU Extension 4-H Youth Development team and interact with county elected officials. Speakers will include County Executive David Coulter, Clerk/Register of Deeds Lisa Brown, Undersheriff Curtis Childs, Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Markeisha Washington, Water Resources Commissioner Jim Nash, Treasurer Robert Wittenberg and Board Chair David T. Woodward. Chief Circuit Judge Jeffery S. Matis, Circuit Judge Lorie N. Savin and Circuit Judge Michael Warren will host interactive sessions in their courtrooms and answer questions from students. The Sheriff's Office will also provide a demonstration of the K-9 unit in action. High schools confirmed to attend include Hazel Park High School, International Tech Academy Pontiac, AGBU Alex and Marie Manoogian School, Oakland Christian School, Southfield Christian School and Notre Dame Preparatory Academy. |
