Qatar University (QU) hosts the 2024 tadTalks Passion-Driven Research. tadTalks represents part of QU's commitment to building a strong sense of graduate community, enhancing the graduate experience, and supporting graduate research.

Dr. Ahmad Al-Own, Dean of Graduate Studies at Qatar University, delivered the welcome address stating: "Graduate studies are the cornerstone of capacity building and the path towards achieving sustainable development and a knowledge-based economy. They receive special attention from the State of Qatar, which has provided all the necessary requirements for their development to elevate them to the ranks of the most advanced countries in the world."

He added: "Graduate studies represent one of the most important academic platforms for Qatar University in its pursuit of excellence in research, education, and community service. The university has achieved significant milestones in programs, education, training, scholarships, services, and partnerships, enriching the culture of creative and authentic scientific research."

"Today's event is a valuable opportunity to build bridges of communication and acquaintance among graduate students from various disciplines, universities, and higher education institutions worldwide. They discuss their research, present their experiences and needs, exchange opinions and experiences that enhance their international relations, develop their talents, and enrich their knowledge and skills in research and innovation fields."

Keynote speaker, Mr. Mohammed Al-Qassabi, discussed his invention of OPAS, a football offside and performance analysis system and his experience in the Stars of Science program. He shares a personal story about a football match and how it inspired him to invent OPAS. Despite initial setbacks and rejection, he persevered and eventually achieved success, winning international awards.

In addition, tadTalks featured several speakers including Ahmed Hassan Abdulrahman Al-Sulaiti, PhD in Engineering Management, College of Engineering at QU and Wafaa Benhsain, PhD in Geography, Faculty of Letters and Human Sciences, Cadi Ayyad University, Morocco.

tadTalks (thesis and dissertation) at QU was established to support the invaluable contribution of graduate researchers to the knowledge-based economy. It follows a similar format to TED Talks, in which speakers provide a 5-7 min talk sharing their perspective on the graduate research experience in order to encourage current and prospective graduate students to take on the challenge of conducting research that has a lasting impact on the local, regional, and international community. tadTalks provides a unique platform to showcase impactful graduate research that addresses global challenges and brings graduate researchers together from around the world to coalesce in a spirit of inquiry.
