Dedication of Sister Cities ‘Crescent of Flags’ set for November 14

The City of Galveston's Sister Cities Committee is hosting a dedication ceremony for the new "Crescent of Flags" display in Galveston on Tuesday, November 14 at 10 a.m.

The Crescent of Flags will represent the City of Galveston's long-standing relationships with its sister cities: Niigata, Japan; Veracruz, Mexico; Stavanager, Norway; and Macharaviaya, Spain. The display will be located at the intersection of 69th Street and Stewart Road near Parker Elementary School and will consist of the country's flag of each sister city.

The Galveston Sister Cities Committee has worked to strengthen relationships with our sister cities through school-to-school and business-to-business interactions.

Galveston's sister cities have made numerous contributions to the City of Galveston, including donating trees after Hurricane Ike, and hosting cultural exchanges between countries.

In addition to the Crescent flags dedication, the Sister Cities committee will partner with the Galveston Children's Museum for the "Galveston Island International Festival" on November 18 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

This free event will give locals the opportunity to meet visitors from Niigata, Japan and experience several other cultures that help make up the diversity of the City of Galveston.
