Oh Baby! Sisters Deliver Daughters on the Same Day at Southeast Georgia Health System

There's nothing like sharing life's special moments with the people you love, but a pair of sisters from Brunswick, Georgia, took that to the next level when they gave birth to their daughters on the same day, just hours apart, at the Southeast Georgia Health System Miriam & Hugh Nunnally Maternity Care Center.

Sarah Casiano-Diffoot Waidmann was surprised when she found out there was a chance that she and her older sister, Tanya Stipe, might deliver their babies on the same day. "I was two weeks late delivering and my sister was induced two weeks early. At around 6 a.m., my baby started kicking furiously and all of a sudden, my water broke and we both ended up in rooms next to each other to give birth on the same day at the same hospital," exclaims Waidmann.

The sisters shared their pregnancy journey together. Stipe, who has a five-year-old son, Riley, and a two-year-old son, Jordan, provided Waidmann, a first-time mom, with comfort and laughs along the way.

"During our pregnancies, our mother was determined that we would deliver our babies on the same day," says Waidmann. "But logic told me that the chance of that happening was just too far-fetched. However, mothers always seem to be right!"

Stipe and her husband, Drew, set eyes on their precious daughter, Emery Taylor, for the first time at 5:58 a.m. on April 15. Emery weighed in at 7 pounds, 1 ounce and measured 20 inches long. She was delivered by Darrin Strickland, MD, board-certified obstetrician and gynecologist, Southeast Georgia Physician Associates-Obstetrics & Gynecology.

"On our way to the hospital, we learned Emery had been born," recalls Waidmann. "We think our daughter just had to be a twin, like her grandma wanted!" Waidmann and her husband, Michael, finally met their beautiful daughter, Selah Adera at 4:45 p.m., weighing in at 7 pounds and measuring 20.5 inches long. She was delivered by Margaret Goodman, MD, board-certified obstetrician and gynecologist, Southeast Georgia Physician Associates-Obstetrics & Gynecology.

"We cannot wait to have them grow up together and share birthdays and milestones," says Waidmann. "But it won't just be our two daughters - my twin sister, Jamellette Gomes, is seven months pregnant with a precious baby boy!"

"I am so thankful to have been able to have my first baby with my sister by my side to support me," says Casiano-Diffoot. "Having that experience with someone you are so close to is very special."
