The Case Against Brian Fitzpatrick

"Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick has been all talk, no action in Washington. Bucks and Montgomery Counties deserve a member who will represent them, not a coward who will fold to MAGA party bosses." - DCCC Chairman Sean Patrick Maloney

Subject: The Case Against Brian Fitzpatrick

Rep. Brian Fitizpatrick is not who he claims to be. When it matters most Fitzpatrick votes with MAGA Republican leadership in Congress that opposed small business aid and middle class tax cuts to Pennsylvania families, protects Donald Trump at all costs, and wants to criminalize abortion without any exceptions for victims of rape and incest.

Bucks and Montgomery Counties deserve a representative who will protect the right to an abortion, support middle class tax cuts, and work to find bipartisan solutions to solve the real problems they face every day. Ashley Ehasz has spent her career fighting for our country and its values, in stark contrast to the mealy-mouthed, DC parlor games of Brian Fitzpatrick.

"As sparking as that bipartisan record may be, it is on bigger issues such as the 1/6 Commission and pandemic relief, where critics feel that Fitzpatrick still aligns himself squarely in the pro-Trump group of Republican lawmakers." [Bucks County Courier Times, 8/24/21]

Trump Robocall From 2020 Election: "Re-Elect Brian Fitzpatrick To Congress. Brian Is A Respected Person. […] Get Out There And Vote For Brian Fitzpatrick. Outstanding Guy." TRUMP: "Hello Pennsylvania, this is Donald Trump, hopefully your all-time favorite President, and I'm calling for a very specific reason. Number one, get out and vote and you're going to vote for me but hopefully you're also going to vote for a tremendous congressman who is respected by everybody, Brian Fitzpatrick, and we have to go out and get out and vote and you can do it right now. Re-elect Brian Fitzpatrick to Congress. Brian is a respected person. He has had an incredible career. Everybody in Washington sits up when Brian walks in, and he's represented you so well. So Pennsylvania, get out there and vote for Brian Fitzpatrick. Outstanding guy. You'll be very proud of this vote. Thank you very much." Fitzpatrick Voted Against The Women's Health Protection Act. In September 2021, Fitzpatrick voted against: "Passage of the bill that would statutorily establish that health care providers have a right to provide and patients have a right to receive abortion services, and it would prohibit certain restrictions related to abortion services. The bill would specify that rights established by the bill may not be restricted by certain requirements or limitations related to abortion services, including prohibitions on abortion prior to fetal viability, or after fetal viability if a provider determines that continuation of a pregnancy would pose a risk to a patient's life or health; requirements that patients disclose reasons for seeking an abortion or make medically unnecessary in-person appointments; requirements that providers provide medically inaccurate information or perform specific medical tests or procedures in connection with the provision of abortion services; limitations on providers' ability to prescribe drugs based on good-faith medical judgment, provide services via telemedicine or provide immediate services when a delay would pose a risk to a patient's health; and requirements for facilities and personnel that would not apply to facilities providing medically comparable procedures. It would also prohibit requirements or limitations that are similar to those established by the bill or that impede access to abortion services and expressly or implicitly single out abortion services, providers or facilities." The bill passed by a vote of 218-211. [H Res 3755, Vote #295, 9/24/21; CQ, 9/24/21]

Headline: "Congressman Fitzpatrick Votes Against Select Commission To Investigate Insurrection." [Levittown Now, 7/3/21]

Fitzpatrick Claimed He Did Not Support Speaker Pelosi's Select Committee To Investigate The January 6th Capitol Riot Because It Amounted To "Divisive Partisanship" Rather Than "Unifying Bipartisanship." "U.S. Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick insists he voted against the latest plan to investigate the Jan. 6 riot at the Capitol for the same reason he voted for an earlier plan to have an independent investigation. He wants a truly bipartisan committee to look into what happened when the Capitol was stormed, injuring more than 100 police officers and leading to the deaths of five people. 'It's very simple,' said Fitzpatrick, R-1 of Middletown. 'I am 100% committed to unifying bipartisanship, and I am 100% opposed to divisive partisanship. To this end, I had my Bipartisan Problem Solvers Caucus (29 Democrats, 29 Republicans) formally endorse the independent bipartisan commission.' "'Speaker (Nancy) Pelosi's new 'partisan select committee,' which is not evenly split between Democrats and Republicans and which allows one party to completely control all investigative decisions, will undoubtedly be politicized and is the exact opposite of the nonpartisan investigation that we need,' Fitzpatrick said in an email answer to questions posed by this news organization.'" [Bucks County Courier Times, 7/2/21]

Fitzpatrick Said He Voted Against Impeaching Trump After The Capitol Insurrection Because It Was A "Single-Party Solution," But Ten House Republicans Voted With Democrats To Impeach Trump. FITZPATRICK: "It was once again articles that were written with no input whatsoever including from me, a single-party solution that I always oppose if that's advanced. […] So my question back to you, Phil, is what did our country accomplish by going down that path, by leading with emotion rather than logic? […] When you impeach somebody, you are, in Congress, you are voting to overturn the results of an election. Right?" PHIL: "No, I don't think so." FITZPATRICK: "You are, Phil." PHIL: "Brian, no you're not. It's not as though this came out of nowhere. He brought this upon himself by inciting that insurrection. It's not as though someone went in and said, 'You know what? We're just tired of you. It's time for you to go.'" FITZPATRICK: "No, when you vote to impeach, you're presumably voting to remove, which occurs in the Senate, which means you are overturning the results of an election. That's what you're doing." Brian Fitzpatrick is the chief enabler of the MAGA Republicans in Congress, aligning the most extreme members and policies in the GOP at the expense of Bucks County.

WHEN IT MATTERS MOST, FITZPATRICK WILL ALWAYS FOLD TO MAGA REPUBLICANS

Fitzpatrick pretends he is a bipartisan problem solver - but he's not. He is a MAGA sheep just like the rest of the Republican caucus. Fitzpatrick - though he refuses to talk about it - was endorsed by Trump in 2020. In classic Fitzpatrick fashion, he spoke out against Trump on January 6th, before voting against impeaching Trump for his seditious actions. Fitzpatrick also pretended to be interested in a bipartisan investigation into January 6th before doing the bidding of GOP leadership to poison the well and attempt to kill the bipartisan select committee investigating the storming of the Capitol.

In addition, Fitzpatrick's top donor and rabid Trump supporter Jim Worthington was exposed for having bused 200 people to Washington D.C. from Pennsylvania to protest the 2020 election. The saga unveiled Fitpatrick's close ties to Worthington, who, along with associates, has donated more than $100,000 to support Fizpatrick. In a wildly inappropriate move, Fitzpatrick gave legal advice to Worthington when the FBI visited Worthington's house to question him about his involvement in January 6th. The congressman also allowed Worthington to draft legislation to steer taxpayer dollars back to Worthington's business that Fitzpatrick pushed on his behalf.

FITZPATRICK'S ANTI-CHOICE EXTREMISM IS A DIRECT THREAT TO PENNSYLVANIA WOMEN

With reproductive rights under assault across the country, Brian Fitzpatrick has aligned with anti-abortion extremists to vote against protecting women's access to abortion and reproductive health care. Fitzpatrick's vote shows he has sided directly with GOP legislatures across the country voting to criminalize abortion without any exceptions for victims of rape and incest. Every Republican running for governor in Pennsylvania would seek to limit abortion access if elected.

FITZPATRICK VOTES AGAINST PENNSYLVANIA

Fitzpatrick will have to explain to voters why, instead of voting to help them recover from the pandemic, he sided with GOP leadership to oppose helping their children, small businesses, and families.

Fitzpatrick voted against the American Rescue Plan, legislation that was a boon to Pennsylvania. The bill has spawned an historic economic comeback, creating a record number of jobs nationwide and taking the Pennsylvania unemployment rate from 16.1% at the height of the pandemic down to 4.9% (as of March 2022). The middle class tax cut in the bill for families benefited 1.4 million families in Pennsylvania and nearly 700,000 workers benefited from the tax relief as well.

Fitzpatrick voted against swaths of aid to small businesses, including $28.6 billion for direct relief funds for restaurants and other business owners in Pennsylvania. As schools worked to reopen and get children back in classrooms, Fitzpatrick voted against $5 billion in funding for K-12 schools and higher education.

PATH TO VICTORY

Even after redistricting, PA-01 remains one of the country's most Democratic-leaning districts held by a Republican. President Biden would have carried the district with 52.4% of the major-party vote in 2020, and every Democratic presidential nominee this century has won this version of PA-01. Other Pennsylvania Democrats have performed even more strongly - Governor Wolf and Senator Casey would've won 59.3% and 57.1% of the major-party vote, respectively, in PA-01 in 2018. This highly educated, majority suburban district resembles others that Democrats have picked up in recent cycles, where Fitzpatrick's alliances with extremist MAGA Republicans are likely to be toxic.
