AEM Joins the Council for Agricultural Science and Technology (CAST)

The Council for Agricultural Science and Technology (CAST) has announced AEM as a new member.

Established in 1972, CAST's primary work is the publication of task force reports, commentaries, special publications, and issue papers written by volunteer experts on a variety of ag-related topics, including: food sciences, agricultural technology and animal sciences, as well as plant and social sciences. CAST members play an integral role in helping to fund studies and publications to educate the public on important issues.

'There is a lot of misinformation about agricultural technologies that can lead to negative perception in the general public, as well as uninformed decisions among legislators and lawmakers. One of our AEM Ag Sector priorities is to work to dispel that type of misinformation and help to bring awareness to the realities and benefits of modern ag,' said AEM Senior Director of Agriculture Anita Sennett.

'The work that CAST does is in perfect alignment with that goal,' added Sennett.

CAST is a nonprofit 501 (c)(3) organization with a membership composed of scientific and professional societies, universities, companies, nonprofits, libraries and individuals. CAST's Board is composed of representatives of the scientific societies, commercial companies, nonprofit or trade organizations, universities and a Board of Directors.

The wide distribution of CAST publications to non-scientists enhances the education and understanding of the public. According to CAST, at a time when the internet has made it more difficult to separate accurate and inaccurate information, it has never been more critical for reputable sources to deliver trusted, non-partisan information from authorities in their respective fields.

'We look forward to collaborating with the other CAST partners as part of AEM's ongoing efforts to bring focus and educate on key aspects of agricultural technologies,' said Sennett.
