Find Your Leaks During This Spring’s Fix a Leak Week

Household leaks can waste nearly 1 trillion gallons of water annually nationwide, according to the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Many of these leaks go unnoticed. To encourage its customers to avoid water waste, Contra Costa Water District is joining the EPA in highlighting this issue during the national Fix a Leak Week. This year's Fix a Leak Week is March 18-24, 2024 - but you can find and fix leaks in and around your home all year long.

Leaks can run, but they can't hide - are you ready to chase down leaks? Here are some helpful resources Contra Costa Water District is offering customers to save valuable water and money:

Test Toilets for Leaks

Toilet leaks can silently waste hundreds of gallons of water per day. Watch our video on how to check for toilet leaks by placing a few drops of food coloring or toilet leak detection dye tablets into the tank. If colored water appears in the bowl after 10-15 minutes, you have a leak and repairs should be made. Make sure to not flush the toilet until the test is completed. CCWD gives out free toilet leak detection dye tablets at our main office: 1331 Concord Ave., Concord, CA 94520.
