The President commemorates completion of V. Fulidhoo Island coastal protection and inaugurates powerhouse on V. Thinadhoo Island 17 July 2023

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih marked the successful completion of the V. Fulidhoo Island coastal protection project on Monday, which aims to safeguard the island from the effects of climate change and rising sea levels. In addition, the President inaugurated a new powerhouse on V. Thinadhoo Island, which will provide reliable and sustainable energy to the island's residents.

The new 1.3-megawatt powerhouse on Thinadhoo Island is located away from residential and tourist areas. The coastal protection project on Fulidhoo Island, completed by the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company Ltd. (MTCC), involved the installation of seawalls and groynes to protect the island's coastlines. The administration initiated both projects to address the challenges faced by residents of the respective islands.

Under President Solih's leadership, the administration has made remarkable strides towards equitable development across all inhabited islands in the Maldives. This includes enhancing the quality of life for citizens and empowering them to lead dignified lives.
