Keep Denton Beautiful Seeking Volunteers for Longest-Running Cleanup Event

Feb. 21, 2024 - Denton, TX - Keep Denton Beautiful (KDB) is seeking area residents ready to improve the Denton community by picking up litter during the Annual Great American Cleanup (GAC) event.

What: 36^th Annual Great American Cleanup - Denton's largest and longest-running community beautification event

When: Saturday, March 23, 9 a.m. - 1 p.m.

Where: Site assignments provided by March 19, 2024 (advance registration encouraged)

Volunteers of all ages and experience levels are welcome to participate and should register in advance by Wednesday, March 13 at www.cityofdenton.com/gac. Walk-up registration is available at the Denton Civic Center at 8 a.m. on the day of the event.

Immediately following the event, volunteers are invited for an appreciation party at the Denton Civic Center (321 E. McKinney St.) from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with free lunch provided by Groovy Chicken and Waffles, Island Whips, and Cheese and Salsa; educational activity booths, face painting, a live DJ, kids' bounce houses, and more. Prizes will be awarded for the largest group of volunteers, most bags collected, and oddest item found.

"The Great American Cleanup is not only KDB's flagship event, but also our most concentrated annual effort to remove litter from our roadways, parks, greenspaces, and waterways," said Parks and Rec Program and Events Manager Autumn Natalie. "Denton has an incredible community of volunteers who continue to show up year after year to ensure Denton maintains a clean, beautiful, and vibrant community for all."

GAC volunteers will clean up assigned locations citywide, ranging from parks and trails to neighborhoods and waterways. Volunteers will receive free supplies such as trash bags, recycling bags, gloves, and litter pick-up sticks, as well as official 2024 Great American Cleanup T-shirts (while supplies last). Limited supplies will be available the morning of the cleanup, so volunteers are encouraged to pick up supplies in advance and go straight to their cleanup site on event day.

GAC is part of a nationwide initiative by Keep America Beautiful and Keep Texas Beautiful to mobilize millions of volunteers across the country to beautify and improve their local communities.
