WORKING VISIT OF YAB DATO’ SRI ISMAIL SABRI YAAKOB PRIME MINISTER OF MALAYSIA

TO THE 77th SESSION OF THE UNITED NATIONS GENERAL ASSEMBLY NEW YORK, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

22 - 25 SEPTEMBER 2022

YAB Dato' Sri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, Prime Minister of Malaysia, will lead Malaysia's delegation to the 77th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (77th UNGA) in New York, United States of America, from 22 to 25 September 2022.

YAB Prime Minister will be accompanied by Minister of Foreign Affairs, YB Dato' Sri Saifuddin Abdullah, and senior government officials.

This will be the second appearance by YAB Dato' Sri Ismail Sabri at the United Nations as the 9th Prime Minister of Malaysia. During the 76th Session, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, YAB Prime Minister attended the session virtually.

YAB Prime Minister is scheduled to deliver Malaysia's National Statement at the General Debate on 23 September 2022. This year's National Statement is set to be delivered in the Malay language, which is YAB Dato' Sri Ismail Sabri Yaakob's own initiative to promote the Malay language at the international stage, such as, the United Nations.

The theme for this year's General Debate, "A watershed moment: transformative solutions to interlocking challenges", focuses on the continuing relevance of the United Nations system. This invariably gives emphasis on the collective commitments made by world leaders to address the challenges of COVID-19 pandemic, Russia-Ukraine conflict and the climate change.

In line with the theme of the 77th UNGA, YAB Prime Minister is expected to share in his National Statement, some of Malaysia's experiences in dealing with the pandemic and global challenges, as well as, highlight some solutions to the global conflicts, such as the situation in Ukraine, Palestine and Myanmar.

YAB Prime Minister will also underline the importance of peaceful coexistence concept in resolving disputes peacefully in order to create a family of nations.

While in New York, YAB Prime Minister will witness the signing of four (4) Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) between Malaysia and Palestine, namely on the Establishment of Joint Committee Meeting, Cooperation in the Field of Health, Tourism and Islamic Affairs.

YAB Prime Minister is also scheduled to have bilateral meetings with his counterparts on the side-lines of the UNGA to discuss matters of mutual interest.

Such meetings are expected to strengthen Malaysia's bilateral relations with other countries and enhance understanding of pertinent regional and global issues.

YAB Prime Minister will also host a "Keluarga Malaysia" dinner for the Malaysian diaspora in New York.

In the meanwhile, Minister of Foreign Affairs, YB Dato' Sri Saifuddin Abdullah is scheduled to participate in meetings and events such as the meeting of the SDG Moments; OIC Committee of Six on Palestine; Transforming Education Summit (TES); Ministerial Meeting of the Group of Friends of the Global Development Initiative (GDI); Ministerial Meeting of the Group of Friends (GoF) of Mediation; MH17 Joint Investigation Team (JIT) Ministerial Meeting; High-Level Meeting to Commemorate the 30th Anniversary of the Adoption of the Declaration on the Rights of Persons Belonging to National or Ethnic, Religious and Linguistic Minorities; Ministerial Meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM); OIC Contact Group on Rohingya Muslims of Myanmar; Informal ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting (IAMM); OIC Annual Coordination Meeting of Foreign Ministers; High-level Plenary Meeting of the General Assembly to commemorate and Promote the International Day for the Total Elimination of Nuclear Weapons;as well as other events held on the side-lines of the 77th UNGA.

YB Minister of Foreign Affairs would also have several bilateral meetings with his counterparts to discuss various bilateral, regional and international issues of mutual interest.
