Portland Permitting & Development is strengthening our Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliance programming. We aim to meet the requirements of Title II of the ADA and encourage the City of Portland to foster safer and more inclusive spaces for everyone.

Building and life safety codes in Portland-and across the nation-prioritize accessible egress to ensure that individuals of all physical abilities can evacuate swiftly and safely in an emergency. The 2010 ADA Accessibility Standards and the Architectural Barriers Act Accessibility Standards reference the International Building Code (IBC) to highlight key elements for accessible exits.

To uphold our City Core Value of Equity, we invite staff and the public to a free webinar by the ADA National Network and the U.S. Access Board on Thursday, March 6, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The session will cover the IBC's requirements for accessible egress, emergency evacuation planning, alarms, exit routes and essential signage.

Hosted by the Great Lakes ADA Center, the webinar will feature real-time captioning and Video Remote Interpreting for inclusivity. Attendees may submit questions in advance or during the event and can earn continuing education credits.
