President Karis attends Three Seas summit in Vilnius

President Alar Karis is attending a summit of the Three Seas Initiative (3SI) in Vilnius today, where discussion will focus on accelerating the construction of the north-south connections forming the main objective of the initiative, as well as on repairing Ukrainian infrastructure and better linking it to the rest of Europe.

Estonia's objectives in terms of major infrastructure projects are the synchronisation of the national electricity system with that of Central Europe by 2025 and the completion of Rail Baltic, hopefully by 2030.

While in Vilnius, President Karis will be meeting with his Czech counterpart Petr Pavel to discuss bilateral cooperation - primarily in the digital, cyber and education fields and in international organisations - and continued multilateral support for Ukraine both on the frontline and in its journey towards EU and NATO accession. The head of state will also be meeting with nuncio Petar Rajič.

Taking part in the business forum being held as part of the summit will be Solita and Greenergy Data Centers from the digital sector; logistics companies Digilogistika Keskus, Eesti Raudtee, Operail, CF and S Estonia; and Enefit Green, Energiasalv, Saare Wind Energy, Sunly, Elering, Utilitas Wind, Ignitis and the BLRT Group from the energy sector.

The 3SI is a regional cooperation format bringing together 13 EU Member States between the Baltic, Black and Adriatic seas: Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czechia, Estonia, Greece, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Slovakia and Slovenia. Ukraine and Moldova also form part of the initiative as associate members. The strategic partners to the 3SI are the United States, Germany and the European Commission.
