Veterans of the Korean War and their families gathered at Shrewsbury Castle to see a commemorative bench being unveiled. This year marks the 70th year since the Korean Armistice Agreement was signed.

The bench was funded by the funeral collection of Robert Brown, a Korean veteran who served in the Middlesex Regiment and came from Kidderminster, who sadly passed away in December 2022. It was commissioned through Shropshire Council's Armed Forces Covenant team, and created by the Crowsmill Craft Centre CIC in Alveley who have recently signed the Armed Forces Covenant.

The outreach team had met Robert and his daughter Debbie when they had attended an event in Cleobury Mortimer where Robert shared his memories of Korea.

The bench was unveiled by Andy Baron, RAF Shawbury Station Commander Group Captain, and Anna Turner, the Lord Lieutenant of Shropshire, in the grounds of Shrewsbury Castle, home of the Soldiers of Shropshire Museum.

Ian Nellins, deputy Leader of Shropshire Council, and Armed Forces champion, said:-

"It's a real privilege to be here with the Korean veterans dedicating this new bench which has been made by Crowsmill Craft Centre.'

"It is through our Outreach team we have brought the veterans here today, and it's a real privilege that we do look after our veterans, not just those who served recently, but those who served 70, 75 years ago."
