"It has been my honor to lead such an amazing SFO team for the past eight years," said Director Satero. "I am immensely proud of what we have accomplished together in our mission to deliver an airport where our passengers, our people and our planet come first. The SFO team has inspired me throughout my career, as we've challenged ourselves and our industry to serve our passengers in an extraordinary way, to be bold and innovative in our environmental accountability, and to care for and support our people, recognizing that the key to SFO's success will always be its dedicated employees. I leave confident that SFO will continue to deliver exceptional results for our passengers, the City & County of San Francisco, and our Bay Area region."<_o3a_p>

"I want to thank Ivar Satero for his leadership at the San Francisco International Airport and his service to the people of the City and County of San Francisco," said Mayor London Breed. "Ivar has steered SFO through a series of transformative infrastructure projects, navigated the challenges of a once-in-a-century pandemic, and implemented nationally recognized sustainability initiatives, all while delivering the best guest experience of any airport in the country. I want to wish Ivar luck in his retirement as we all recognize his bold efforts in making the San Francisco International Airport the best in the nation."<_o3a_p>

During his tenure as Airport Director, SFO added 26 new international airlines and 25 new international destinations. "Prior to the pandemic, SFO was the fastest-growing U.S. airport for international travel," said Director Satero. "We've worked incredibly hard to restore our international service. SFO has now surpassed pre-COVID flight levels."<_o3a_p>

Mr. Satero continued SFO's legacy of environmental leadership, becoming the first airport in the world to prohibit the sale of water and all other beverages in plastic bottles. SFO has also established itself as the world leader in the use of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), receiving over 10 million gallons in 2023. And by extending the AirTrain people mover to Long-Term Parking, the Airport eliminated over 600,000 miles of shuttle bus trips annually.<_o3a_p>
