Investigation into Fatal Crash at 11001 Fuqua Street

July 31, 2023- Houston police are investigating a fatal crash at 11001 Fuqua Street that occurred about 4:25 p.m. last Friday (July 28).

The identity of the deceased male, 56, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes' Division Sergeant J. James and Officer D. Ortega reported:

The driver of a white Freightliner tractor-truck pulling a trailer was behind a store at the above address and attempted to pull out of the parking lot onto Sabo Road. The male was on a bicycle and traveling on Sabo Road when he attempted to cross in front of the 18-wheeler. The driver did not see the bicyclist, continued to pull onto the street and struck the bicyclist.

Houston Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and pronounced the man deceased. The driver of the 18-wheeler, who remained at the scene, was determined not to be impaired and was questioned and released.

The investigation is continuing.
