City of Reno to Celebrate Robinhood Park Upgrades and RPD Officer Craig Pittman

The City of Reno is inviting the community to celebrate recent upgrades to Robinhood Park including a new playground and basketball court, along with a new plaque that honors the late Reno Police Officer Craig Pittman.

Funded through a Community Development Block Grant, several upgrades were made to Robinhood Park including a resurfaced basketball court, a new inclusive playground, a renovated drip irrigation system, and new sidewalks for ADA compliance.

Reno Vice Mayor Naomi Duerr is sponsoring this community celebration and will give remarks about these upgrades and the legacy of Officer Pittman who served with the Reno Police for more than 20 years and was instrumental in the development of Robinhood Park in 1995.

"Just as it took a community to come together in the 1990s to make this park a reality, it took a dedicated team to make these upgrades over the last year," said Vice Mayor Duerr. "This event is an opportunity for all of us-residents, students, community leaders and more - to come together to thank our staff, Police Officers and SAVE Officers for their work, and to celebrate how lovable this park is.We think the neighborhood kids are going to love it!"

Reno Police Officer Craig Pittman was a youth champion. He made kids a priority and worked extensively to support them in reaching their goals. Officer Pittman is also credited with starting the S.A.V.E. Officer program in 1997 to provide a way for senior volunteers to receive training to help out the Reno Police Department. SAVE members patrol streets, ticket vehicles and assist in reporting crimes to allow RPD Officers to focus on crime prevention.

The event is free to the public and refreshments will be served. Officer Pittman's daughter is expected to fly in to attend. Students from nearby Anderson Elementary School will also celebrate the park.
