Press Release: Torrance Transit System Awarded CTA Innovation Award

Torrance, Calif., November 24, 2023 - The Torrance Transit System was honored with the distinguished Transit Innovation Award at the Small Operator Awards Ceremony on Thursday, November 16, 2023. This event hosted by the California Transit Association was part of the 58th Annual Fall Conference and Expo held in Pasadena, California. The award honors an organization's new outstanding innovation, program or service demonstrating innovative concepts, effective problem-solving techniques, or promoting a positive image of transit in the community that benefits Small Operators in particular or public transit in general. The award specifically recognizes the construction and operation of the new Mary K. Giordano Regional Transit Center, the City's newest transit center to open in 2023.

"Torrance Transit is truly honored by this recognition," stated Kim Turner, Director of Torrance Transit. "Constructing this facility was a nearly 20-year effort that required collaboration with multiple City Departments and many project partners. Most importantly, this award acknowledges Mary K. Giordano's vision for public transit, and the wisdom of LeRoy J. Jackson, Aram Chaparyan and our Mayor and Council - past and current - who supported this project."
Torrance Transit was established in January of 1940 and has been in continuous operation for nearly 84 years.
The agency operates 12 fixed-bus routes which include one Rapid Bus and two Express services and is a department within the City of Torrance.
