U.S. Department of Commerce Invests $1.5 Million to Provide Critical Water Infrastructure for New Industrial Park in Ames, Iowa

WASHINGTON - Today, U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo announced that the Department's Economic Development Administration (EDA) is awarding a $1.5 million grant to the city of Ames, Iowa, to construct critical water infrastructure to allow for development and business growth at the Prairie View Industrial Center. This EDA project, to be matched with $3.8 million in local funds, is expected to generate $30 million in private investment.

'President Biden is committed to helping communities develop new opportunities for business growth to ensure that they not only recover from the coronavirus pandemic but build back stronger,' said Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo. 'This EDA investment will establish the Prairie View Industrial Center to attract new businesses and allow existing businesses to expand, creating a more diverse regional economy for the future.'

'The Economic Development Administration is pleased to support Ames as it expands its economic development opportunities,' said Dennis Alvord, Acting Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Economic Development. 'This project will extend the sanitary sewer and water mains to serve 1,300 acres of the new industrial park, providing capacity for businesses to increase high-skill, high-quality job possibilities in the region.'

'I'm glad that the Economic Development Administration has awarded the City of Ames a $1.5 million grant to construct critical water infrastructure at the Prairie View Industrial Center,' said Senator Chuck Grassley. 'This update will allow for continued development and business growth in the area. I look forward to seeing all the new projects as the community continues to expand,' Grassley said.
