Vahagn Hovakimyan: Democracy is a Formula fo9r the Development of the State for Me

The development of the countries with limited resources like Armenia is possible in one way: with democracy. It is of vital importance for our country. The candidate nominated in the position for the Chairman of the Central Electoral Commission expressed this conviction in his speech.

On October 7, by the deputies' initiative the National Assembly convened an extraordinary sitting, on the agenda of which are the items of the election of the candidates for Chairman and members of the Central Electoral Commission (CEC).

Vahagn Hovakimyan documented that in recent years Armenia goes on through the development of democracy, which today is an internationally recorded fact. "There is not free, fair, transparent and competitive election, then there cannot be democracy," Vahagn Hovakimyan, adding that any encroachment against free, fair, transparent and competitive elections is an encroachment against sovereignty of our state.

According to the candidate's observation, in the last 25 years the electoral system of the Republic of Armenia continuously developed, and in recent years it more than progressed. The citizens, as well as the political forces of Armenia, the local and international NGOs and the structures implementing observation mission, still functioning CEC, etc promoted it.

The improving of the electoral system is a continuous process, and in its should be the provision of more transparency. Vahagn Hovakimyan expressed this conviction.

The candidate assured that in case of being elected he would not spare efforts in order to contribute to more developing the democracy in Armenia.

"I will work in the position of the CEC Chairman exclusively for the benefit of the Republic of Armenia, for the benefit of the reputation of the electoral system and rise of trustworthiness in order the elections in Armenia to be more free, fairer, more transparent and more competitive," Vahagn Hovakimyan assured.

Answering to the deputy Hakob Aslanyan's question, what is democracy for the candidate, Vahagn Hovakimyan said: "Democracy is a formula for the development of the state for me."

The MPs Emma Palyan and Khachatur Sukiasyan positively assessed Vahagn Hovakimyan's nomination in the position for the CEC Chairman, underlining that in case of being elected he will do his work at best.

The Chair of the RA NA Standing Committee on State and Legal Affairs Vladimir Vardanyan presented the biography and working path of the candidate for the CEC Chairman. He assessed Vahagn Hovakimyan as a person of principle, fighting, always evaluating the democratic values and searching justice.
