International academic report on Chinese language study to be held

An academic report entitled "a comparative study on the Phonosemantics of the Maha Prajna Sutra between China and Japan" is going to be held online on May 24th by Professor Liang Xiaohong from Nanzan University, Japan. The report is to start at 14:00 and last for 2 hours.

Professor Long Guofu from the School of Liberal Arts will host the report, which is the first in a series of international academic reports themed "modern linguistic theories and Chinese language studies".

This report carries out a comparative study on the Phonosemantics of the Maha Prajna Sutra in China and Japan, and investigates the development and changes of the sound and meaning of the Buddhist sutra in the Han Dynasty as well as their respective research value with the emergence of Japanese characters.

Liang Xiaohong is a professor at the School of Comprehensive Policy at Nanzan University, a part-time researcher at the Nanzan Institute of Religious Culture, and a guest researcher at the Shirakawa Shizuka Institute of East Asian Characters and Culture. He mainly studies Buddhism and the history of Chinese language, and has published more than 170 academic papers. He has also published books including The Construction of Buddhist Words and the Development of Chinese Vocabulary, Buddhism and Chinese Vocabulary Study, Buddhism and the History of Chinese Language - Centered on Japanese Data, etc.
