Fort Worth tips its Stetson to all the volunteers

Did you know that the City of Fort Worth is home to an amazing array of volunteer opportunities? National Volunteer Week is the perfect time to explore those programs and discover new ways to serve the community!

Why should I consider volunteering?

The City's volunteer programs empower Fort Worth residents to make a tangible impact on their communities; volunteers are quite literally improving the city every day. Volunteers also benefit by learning new skills and forging new relationships. Studies have even shown that volunteerism can improve mental and physical health.

How many people volunteer with the City?

More than 10,000 people volunteer with the City each year, lending their time and talents to 44 volunteer programs.

What volunteer opportunities are available?

The City has 44 volunteer programs managed by more than 35 volunteer coordinators across eight city departments. These programs encompass a wide variety of areas, including animal welfare, public safety, beautification, law, environment and sustainability, education, local history and facility support.

What else should I know?

The City transitioned to a new volunteer management system (VMS), GetConnected by Galaxy Digital, in March. The VMS is the system that houses all volunteer records for the City, and is used by volunteers to register for opportunities and track their hours, among other vital functions. This comprehensive platform provides an accessible, enjoyable experience for users, and will allow the City to better serve thousands of volunteers each year.

We cannot adequately thank our volunteers for what they give our city. They make Fort Worth a cleaner, safer, happier place to live, and show all of us what it means to love your community. Thank you for your time, your energy, and your talents!
