Hydrant Flushing in Newton April 19 & 20

The City of Newton Utilities Department will be flushing hydrants in Newton on April 19 and April 20. Hydrants north of 1st Ave will be flushed on April 19, while hydrants south of 1st Ave will be flushed on April 20.

Hydrants are flushed several times yearly to clear the water mains of internal corrosion and residue, which naturally builds up in the mains. While no interruptions in water service will occur, customers may experience some pressure drop or discoloration of their water. The discoloration will clear up in a few minutes if the cold-water tap is allowed to run. Do not run hot water or do laundry until the cold water side is clear. And as a reminder, only hydrants that provide the most significant flow and those on dead ends are opened.

Should water customers of Newton, Lambs Grove, or surrounding areas have questions or concerns, they may contact the City of Newton Utility Billing Office at 641-792-2003.
