Maranoa locals urged to get behind region for Top Tourism poll

Maranoa residents and visitors are being urged to help others discover the region's riches by voting for Roma as Queensland's Top Tourism Town.

Roma has been announced as one of 16 finalists from across the state in the 2024 Queensland Top Tourism Town Awards, recognising the town for offering visitors an authentic 'country meets Outback' experience.

Presented by the Queensland Tourism Industry Council (QTIC), the annual Top Tourism Town Awards celebrate outstanding regional destinations and honour communities that demonstrate a commitment to visitor excellence.

After the extensive judging process by a panel of tourism experts, Queensland Tourism Industry Council is asking the public to help decide the winners, with Mayor Wendy Taylor calling upon locals and visitors to the Maranoa to get behind the region.

"We are thrilled to see the Top Tourism Town program shine a light on Roma as gateway to our amazing region, as well as its rich heritage and unique attractions," she said.

"Locals and frequent visitors know the treasures that the region holds, but these awards are a terrific opportunity to showcase the Maranoa to the rest of Australia," she said.

Mayor Taylor said she hoped that Maranoa residents would show their support for all of the towns in the region by voting for Roma in the awards that will see the region put on top of tourist's planning lists.

With voting now open and closing 17 May, Queenslanders have just one week to vote for their favourite holiday gems through the QTIC website at www.qtic.com.au/top-tourism-award/

Queensland's three Top Tourism Towns will be announced on 7 June at an awards ceremony held in Brisbane. State winners will go on to represent Queensland at the national awards held later in the year, where they have the chance to be crowned one of Australia's Top Tourism Towns.

The Queensland Top Tourism Town Awards are made possible through the generosity of sponsors, in particular Tourism and Events Queensland and the Seven Network.
