Water leak detection survey

Water leak detection survey

Published on April 29, 2024

Menlo Park Municipal Water has contracted E Source to provide technical field services related to water leak detection. Under the City's general supervision, these technicians will be surveying the City May 6-17.

Menlo Park Municipal Water has over 60 miles of buried water pipeline and 4,300 customer service lines, in addition to other types of water infrastructure such as numerous hydrants and valves. Small or hidden leaks that are not visible at the surface can increase the City's water usage and water loss. This type of field investigation will assist Menlo Park Municipal Water in identifying, locating and repairing hidden leaks to avoid unknown water loss. Reducing water loss will help the City's water system in efficiency and reliability to provide the community with safe potable water.

In May, E Source field technicians will be walking along the streets and sidewalks inspecting customer water meters, hydrants and valves with specialized equipment. They will be outfitted with headphones, pole microphones and other types of sensors to accomplish this survey. No action will be required from residents to complete this survey.
