History of the Middle East and the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict

San Anselmo Native Dr. Alex Boodrookas, a Professor of History at the Metropolitan State University in Denver with a focus on Modern Middle East, will give two presentations on Zoom on the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict.

Wednesday, May 29 at 7pm on Zoom

Dr. Boodrookas will lay out the origins of conflict in Israel and Palestine, beginning with the arrival of the first members of the Zionist movement in 1882 and ending with the sweeping Israeli victory in the 1967 war. It focuses on the core issues that divide Palestinians and Israelis, and how these fissures emerged.

Wednesday, June 5 at 7pm on Zoom

Dr. Boodrookas will discuss developments in Middle Eastern politics since the revolutions of 2011. This presentation begins by tracing efforts by the region's autocratic regimes to suppress dissent (including the role of US policy in assisting those efforts) and then pivots to the context of the October 7 attacks, the subsequent war in Gaza, and how the war has led to new realignments in the region.
