UPDATE (4:08 PM) Road Closures in Armstrong and Butler Counties

​Indiana, PA - The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is advising motorists of the following weather-related road closures.

Armstrong

• Now Open - Iron Bridge Road between Horseshoe Drive, Stokes Road and South Scenic Road in South Buffalo Township
• Now Open - Route 3013 - Nicola Road/Mushroom Farm Road/Nichola Road between M&M Lime Company Drive and Fennelton Road in West Franklin Township
• Craigsville Road/Yellow Dog Road between Airport Road, Yellow Dog Road and Craigsville Road in West Franklin
• NEW - Route 1033 Johnston Avenue/Oak Avenue between Lower Hayes Road in Rayburn Township and River Hill Road in Boggs Township
• NEW - Route 1004 at the Poseytown Road, Scenic Road intersection in Madison Township

​Butler

• Route 38 between Exit: US 422 West and Hoon Road, Pine Tract Road in Center Township
• Route 1016 between Hendricks Road in Butler Township and Route 38 - Oneida Valley Road in Summit Township
• Route 3006 Renfrew Road between Hicks Road and Three Degree Road in Penn Township
• Now Open - Route 3007 Benbrook Road/Three Degree Road/Valencia Road/Meridian Road between Smith Road and Beacon Light Road in Penn Township
• Now Open - Route 3025 Little Creek Road/Yellow Creek Road between Little Creek Road and East Lancaster Road in Lancaster Township
• Route 68 between Route 528 - Lindsay Road in Jackson Township and Washington Street Evans City. Detour for 68 West: Route 3015 South to Route 228, to Route 19 to Route 528. For 68 East: Route 528 North to Route 19 South, to Route 228 East, to Route 3015.
• Route 308 West Sunbury Road between Kyle Road and Goff Station Road in Boyers Township

• Route 4012 Boyers Road/Cemetery Road between Oakland Road in Marion Township and Kohlmeyer Road in Venango Township
• Now Open - Route 2012 Dinnerbell Road between Victory Road and Dinnerbell Road, Golden City Road in Jefferson Township

PennDOT cautions motorists to never drive through flooded roadways, as it takes just two feet of fast-moving water to float a car. Anyone who drives around barriers intended to close a road can face increased penalties if emergency responders are called to rescue motorists who disregard traffic control signs.

Reduce speeds and increase the following distance to other vehicles. At excessive speeds for the weather conditions, vehicles can begin to hydroplane on a wet roadway. Hydroplaning happens when tires lose their grip on the road and ride like skis on a film of water. The faster motorists drive on a wet roadway, the less effective the tires become at griping the roadway. Hydroplaning can occur at speeds as low as 35 mph, when water is only 1/10 of an inch deep. Worn tires make this problem worse.

When hydroplaning occurs, do the following:

• Keep both hands on the steering wheel.
• Slowly let off on the gas pedal to let the vehicle slow down. Do not slam on the brakes or try to turn suddenly because this will cause the vehicle to skid. As the vehicle slows down, the amount of tire tread touching the road will increase, and traction will improve.
• Turn slowly and only as much as necessary to keep the vehicle on the road.
• Brake gently when needed.
