NOPD Announces Preliminary Crime Statistics for February 9-13, 2025

The following is a weekly report of citywide crime statistics compiled by the NOPD Analytics Unit for the period of February 9-13, 2025.

Notable arrests made

During the listed week, the NOPD also made the following notable arrest(s):

  • On February 10, NOPD Eighth District detectives arrested Elijah Riggins (black male, DOB: 05-16-2003) in their investigation of an aggravated battery by shooting that occurred on November 30, 2024, at the intersection of Canal and Carondelet streets. Riggins was booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center on one count each of aggravated battery by shooting and for illegal use of weapons.
  • On February 13, the NOPD's Violent Offender Warrant Squad and the U.S. Marshals arrested Sterling Pepe (black male, DOB: 05-25-1999) in the NOPD's investigation of a homicide that occurred on January 7, 2025, at the intersection of Elysian Fields Avenue and North Galvez Street. Pepe was booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center on one count of second-degree murder. A second suspect in this investigation, Marvin Banks (black male, DOB; 01-28-1996) was arrested on January 11 and also booked on one count of second-degree murder.

Gun arrests (arrests made under LA RS 14:95 and sub-items)

Year to date, the NOPD has made 36 arrests for illegal possession of a firearm. This is a 75-percent decrease compared to 98 arrests made during the same period in 2024.

Gun seizures

Additionally, as of February 10, the NOPD in 2025 had seized 205 firearms in criminal investigations, a 41-percent decrease compared to 347 such seizures made during the same period in 2024.
