Council Tax Freedom of Information ruling

Liverpool City Council has now published the names of two serving Councillors who received a summons for non, or late payment, of Council Tax between 2019 and 2024.

The publication of the names follows a ruling from the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), after an initial Freedom of Information request.

The ICO's ruling overturns the original decision taken by the Council which was not to release the names. The Council had opted for non-disclosure on the grounds that the individuals had a right to privacy over tax matters. Neither Councillor had voted on a Council Tax motion whilst in arrears.

The individuals concerned are councillors Tom Cardwell and Lisa Gaughan.
