Booker Applauds Port Authority NY/NJ Decision to Raise Airport Service Workers’ Hourly Wage to $25

NEWARK, N.J. - Today, U.S. Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ) applauded the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey's (Port Authority) adoption of an hourly wage increase for airport service workers at Port Authority-operated airports.

"Port Authority airport service workers play an indispensable role at three of our nation's busiest airports-from cleaning cabins and handling sensitive cargo, to escorting passengers with disabilities, assisting with security, and so much more. The Port Authority's decision to adopt wage increases for airport service workers affirms their commitment to uplifting working people and families across New Jersey and New York, strengthening our local and state economies, and maintaining the standards we have long championed at our airports," said Senator Booker.

On behalf of airport service workers, Senator Booker penned a letter on December 11, 2024, urging the Port Authority to raise its hourly wage to $25 an hour. Senator Booker's letter to the Port Authority stressed the vital role airport service workers play in maintaining operational success across three of the nation's busiest airports.

Senator Booker has long advocated for airport workers, previously writing in support of workers across Port Authority airports in 2017, when he successfully advocated for a $15 hour wage for all airport service workers, thereby achieving pay parity between New York and New Jersey airports.
