Traffic Closure Notices


J Avenue NE Lane Reduction

Effective Monday, September 26, J Avenue NE will be reduced to one lane between Wenig Road and Sierra Drive for utility relocation. Work is expected to take two (2) days.

1st Avenue W Traffic Impact Updates

  • Effective Wednesday, September 7, 6th Street SW will open to traffic at 1st Avenue W; 6th Street NW will remain closed at 1st Avenue W. Northbound turns onto 6th Street NW will not be permitted from 1st Avenue W. Additionally, 3rd Street SW will open to northbound traffic between 2nd Avenue SW and 1st Avenue W.
5th Street NW/SW at 1st Avenue W remains open at this time.
  • Starting Wednesday, September 6, 1st Street W will be closed to all traffic from 1st Avenue W to 2nd Avenue SW, and from 1st Avenue W to E Avenue NW, for permanent flood control construction. The closure is expected to be in place until fall of 2023. East/west traffic on 1st Avenue will be maintained.

This phase of permanent flood control construction includes relocating the 1st Avenue and 1st Street W intersection approximately 25 feet to the west to accommodate a future flood gate across 1st Avenue W. Additionally, 1st Street SW will be relocated westward, and 1st Street NW will be elevated over the top of the flood control system.

1st Street NW Closure

Effective Saturday, September 24, 1st Street NW will be closed between L Avenue and I Avenue for UP Railroad to perform track maintenance. Work is expected to take three (3) days.

Lindale Trail Extension Project Update, Upcoming Closures of C Avenue and Blairs Ferry Road NE

Pavement, utility, signal and pedestrian work continues to move forward on the Lindale Trail Extension - Phase 1 project. Upcoming road closures along C Avenue NE and Blairs Ferry Road will be necessary to allow the contractor to continue work. Message signs will be placed five business days prior to the closures to alert local traffic of impacts and to anticipate travel delays.

Starting at 10 p.m. on Wednesday, September 28:

  • Traffic on C Avenue NE will not be able to cross through the intersection of Blairs Ferry Road.
  • Traffic on Blairs Ferry Road NE will not be able to turn onto C Avenue.
  • The closure is needed so crews can install new sidewalk and ADA ramps, traffic signals, and water main across C Avenue.
  • A signed detour route will be in place, directing traffic to use Collins Road NE, Council Street NE, and Boyson Road NE to navigate around the closure.
  • This work is scheduled to be completed by 5 a.m. on Monday, October 3.

Starting at 10 p.m. on Wednesday, October 5:

  • Traffic on Blairs Ferry Road will not be able to cross through the intersection of C Avenue.
  • Traffic on C Avenue NE will not be able to turn onto Blairs Ferry Road.
  • The closure is needed so crews can install new sidewalk and ADA ramps, traffic signals, and water main across Blairs Ferry Road.
  • A signed detour route will be in place, directing traffic to use Collins Road and Marion Boulevard (to the east) or Council Street (to the west) to navigate around the closure.
  • This work is scheduled to be completed by 5 a.m. on Monday, October 10.

This project includes a tunnel underpass beneath Blairs Ferry Road. Traffic has been shifted to the north lanes of Blairs Ferry Road while crews prepare to place a culvert on the south side of the road. Water main has been relocated and private utility relocations are pending.

1st Avenue E Traffic Impacts

  • Effective Friday, September 9, 1st Street SE between 1st Avenue E and 2nd Avenue SE is restricted as the permanent flood control project continues. Additionally, 1st Street NE has reopened between 1st Avenue E and A Avenue NE.
  • Effective Friday, September 9 at 5:30 a.m., traffic will shift to the two inside lanes and the outside lanes will close on 1st Avenue E / Marion Boulevard as Phase 2 begins of the 2022 Pavement Rehabilitation project. Traffic signal modifications at 1st Avenue E and Collins Road NE will occur to accommodate the lane closures. Additionally, intersecting streets will be closed. This phase is expected to last three weeks, weather dependent.

8th Avenue SW Intersection Closure

Weather permitting, beginning Monday, August 29th, the intersection of 8th Avenue and Rockford Road SW will be fully closed for utility work and pavement reconstruction. This closure is associated with the 8th Avenue SW from 15th St to Rockford Road Improvements project and is expected to be in place until the end of September. Access to homes and businesses will be maintained from streets adjacent to the closure. A signed detour will be posted.

Center Point Rd NE from Coe Rd to Lincoln Ave Construction Update | September 2

Current Traffic Impacts:

  • Center Point Road continues to be reduced to one lane, southbound, with the work occurring in the left lane.
  • F Avenue is closed on the east side at Center Point Road.

Oakland Road NE Construction Update | September 2

Current Traffic Impacts

  • Oakland Road/Old Marion Road is closed to through traffic between Miami Court and Nelson's Meat Market. Residents can drive on the new pavement to get to their homes.
  • Old Marion Road is closed to through traffic between Golf Street and 42nd Street. Access to the businesses in this area is maintained.

  • Through traffic should follow the posted detours at 32nd Street and 42nd Street.

Paving is complete on Oakland Road/Old Marion Road from Miami Court to Nelson's Meat Market. Golf Street has also been paved between 42nd Street and Old Marion Road. Golf Street was realigned with Old Marion Road to eliminate the odd angles and to make turning movements safer.

Work continues in the area of Oakland Road/Old Marion Road from Miami Court to Nelson's Meat Market and includes: sidewalk installation, backfilling, sodding, pavement markings, traffic signs, and general cleanup.

Ellis Boulevard and 6th Street NW Connector Construction Update | August 24

The intersection of E Avenue NW and Ellis Boulevard is currently closed as construction has begun. The intersection will remain closed until all infrastructure work is complete. Once this intersection is complete and open to traffic, the construction at the intersection F Avenue NW and Ellis Boulevard will begin. Please follow posted detour signs.

Additionally, water main is being installed along the east side of 6th Street NW. The water main will cross 6th Street at A Avenue. This underground work is in preparation for construction next year.

A Avenue NE Closure

Effective Monday, August 8, A Avenue NE will be closed between 10th Street and 11th Street for skywalk construction. Work is expected to take approximately six (6) months. Detour to be posted.

Tower Terrace Road NE Closure

Effective Monday, July 11, 2022, Tower Terrace Road NE will be closed between Center Point Road and Milburn Road for construction of the new I-380 interchange. Work is expected to take approximately four (4) months. Traffic to follow posted detour.

North Side Portion of Cedar Lake Trail Closed | October 26

The southern portion of Cedar Lake Trail was reopened Monday. The northern portion of the trail is now closed and will remain closed for approximately two years for construction of the flood control system. Click map showing closed section (red) and open section (green).
