MSUM Scrubs Camp receives grant to support student participation

Essentia Health has made a substantial financial commitment to Minnesota State University Moorhead's Scrubs Camp, enhancing accessibility to high school students pursuing healthcare careers. This investment will lower the registration fees for all students, ensuring greater affordability. Essentia's support will also provide scholarships to alleviate the remaining registration expenses for students encountering financial difficulties.

"This is a win-win-win. Scrubs Camp provides opportunities for students to explore careers locally, for Essentia Health to meet our workforce demands, and for our community to be filled with passionate and talented professionals earning a living wage," said Thomas Hill, Essentia Health West Community Relations Program Manager.

MSUM collaborates with the Minnesota State Healthforce Center of Excellence and Essentia Health to host Scrubs Camp June 24-27, 2024. The four-day healthcare careers camp serves regional high school students interested in nursing, microbiology, mental health, athletic training, and related disciplines.

"Essentia Health's partnership and financial support for this program are crucial as it connects these students with expert instructors and local professionals," said MSUM Youth Outreach Coordinator Sean Brandenburg. "Whether they want to become nurses, psychiatrists, or anything in between, Scrubs Camp helps students build the skills and the foundation they need to pursue a healthcare career successfully."

"We are grateful for the advocacy and outreach efforts our collaboration with MSUM provides to the community of learners in the FMWF region. Scrubs Camp offers a variety of entry points as students embark on their journeys into healthcare careers. We are pleased to support this camp financially and through active participation," said Essentia Health Workforce Development Specialist Matt Naugle
